My Great Grandmothers Key

My object is a key to my great-grandma’s house in Dublin, Ireland. It is relatively small and simple, and made out of a kind of heavy metal. If I lived in Dublin, I could and would have gone to her house all the time.
Even though I was born in the United States, my parents started to make me in Ireland. When they first did, my mom asked my great-grandma for the key. My great-grandma, who has a very strong personality, asked why I would need it if the house door has 2 locks, and besides, I would always be welcome there. My mom replied that it was more of a symbolic thing. I don’t know what she thought, but my great-grandma gave the key, and when I was born, I got it. My great-grandma passed away in 2019, 2 weeks before her 100th birthday, so this story is one of many told endless times by our extended family, and is very important to us.
Whenever I hold the key, I weigh it in my hand and think about nana(what everyone called my great-grandma) and Ireland, and all the good times we had. I miss her, and want to remember her. I’d like to think she is looking down from heaven, maybe thinking it’s about time someone wrote about something like this. So, for all of these reasons, my key is very important and special to me.
