Hello Kitty represents a part of my Asian American identity. Hello Kitty and her Sanrio friends were not created in America but they're part of American pop culture. As a child of immigrant parents it has been a struggle keeping a balance between American culture and social norms and Chinese traditions and culture. Since childhood Hello Kitty has always been my "American accepted" cultural tie to my Asian roots. Hello Kitty and her friends show that smiles and friendship are an international language that can bring many together.
