My Great Grandmother
My great grandmother is the matriarch of my family. She became a single mother of four children at a young age. Her dream was that one day her and her children would start a new life in the United States. She wanted them to have an education and a better life. She worked hard to save money for her dream. In the late 1960’s she decided it was time to pursue her dream. She left her hometown of Poncitlan Jalisco, Mexico. Leaving her children in the care of her parents, she crossed the border illegally through Tijuana, Mexico. She immediately found a job at a medical laundry service company in Los Angeles. She would send money to her children, and after three years she was able to save enough money to bring her children to the United States to provide a better life for them. My great grandmother to me is a role model, she represents that hard work pays off. She has taught me and family that you could achieve anything in life if you set your mind to it. We call her the matriarch because her family is her life! She enjoys hosting dinners at her house and nothing makes her more happy than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
