My object is gold flower-shaped earrings. I got them from my grandmother after she passed. She used to be a collector before she passed. She collected many things, watches, old sculptures, and fancy jewelry. She had particularly liked these earrings because she got them from her grandmother as well. These earrings are very important to me because they mean I will always have a piece of my grandmother with me. Keeping these earrings helps to keep her memory alive and when I wear them I am reminded of how loving, adventurous, and wise she was.
My heritage is mixed and diverse, from my mother's side there are people that come from the south islands, Barbados, and Antigua. But from my father's side, there are people from Ghana and parts of the United States. My grandmother was born and raised here in New York. I wonder from time to time where these earrings were originally from. But no matter where its origin lies, I know it comes from a very diverse and special family.

Place(s): New york
