My Great-Grandparents came from Sicily to the United States to afford my grandmother a better life in the United States. They grew up in poverty in Pennsylvania. My Great-Grandfather was in and out of their household all the time, so my Great-Grandmother did most of the providing. My Grandmother commuted over an hour from her academic school every night so that she could dance at her ballet school and then she commuted back home, getting home so late, her mother had already gone to bed. She eventually grew up to become a professional dancer at the American Ballet Theater. This all would never have been possible for my Grandmother and for me and my family had my Great- Grandparents never come to the United States.
