A molcajete is a bowl shaped tool made of stone used for grinding various food products. The name comes from the Aztecs, meaning “seasoning” and “bowl”. The molcajete used in my home was given to my mom by her mom, my grandma. Since my grandma passed, the molcajete seems to have gained more value to my family and I. It’s an object my family and I use nearly every day in our home. I’m very lucky to have had my mom take the time to teach me how to properly use it. While to others it might seem like a simple cooking tool it carries happy memories for my family and I. It's a part of our culture and who we are. I hope to one day receive one from my mom just as she did.
