Marriage Certificate from 1888
This is my great great great grandparents’ marriage certificate. Thore and Christine Driftland are my dad’s great great grandparents, making them my great great great grandparents. They were married on October 10, 1888, right before they left their home country of Norway, and immigrated to America, where they settled in Webster City, Iowa. My dad grew up in Jewell, Iowa, and his parents(my grandparents) and great grandparents, as well as many extended family members grew up and lived in Iowa as well. This explains why my dad and his side of the family are all from Iowa. The norwegian genes run throughout my dad’s side of the family, which means that I also have norwegian genes. This document dates back to the year of 1888, during this time period there was a large-scale emigration from Norway to America due to more job and work opportunities in America, which would explain why my great great great grandparents would want to leave Norway. This represents the American identity by showing how people really wanted more job opportunities and more freedom, explaining why so many people left their home countries, like my great great great grandparents, to come to America.
