Maracas
My object is a maraca (a type of instrument that is most common in Mexico) that is from Mexico. My mother comes from Mexico. My mom got it when she was a little girl. Her mother gave it to her so she can play it to not be bored at home.
In Mexico, it is common for children to play with maracas. My object is made out of wood and has the colors of the Mexican flag which is red, white, and green. We use the Maracas in the holidays like Christmas, The Mexico independence day, Cinco de Mayo (which is the 5th of May) which is important to celebrate and represents Mexico and our people. We celebrate this because it's our tradition to play it and it represents my family.
I have never been to Mexico. Bringing the culture to America makes it extra special for me. It reminds me of Mexico because people in Mexico celebrate with this instrument. This is why this instrument, the maracas, are important to me and my family.
