Map of the Places We Visited
My father moved to Illinois in 1989 while my mother moved to Illinois in 1996, both under different circumstances. My father was a first generation immigrant who began working in warehouses, living with either friends or his brothers in buildings that always seemed too cramped. He chased bigger dreams that could build wealth and eventually began working for as a car salesman. It was at his job where he met my mother who was looking for a car to buy at the time.
My mother came to Illinois as a part of the 1.5 generation. She was 17 when she came, and did so because her father had to find a job after a failed harvest. My mother also began working in warehouses to help her family. But, when she married my father, both of their lives changed for the better.
Now, they both work in insurance with two children (myself included) achieving more than they ever thought they would. Settling in Illinois has allowed them to gain the ability to fulfill their dream of travelling to as many places as we can go. They are my biggest role models as they have shown me that great accomplishments can be achieved from any individual.
