My grand father gave me this helmet when I was about twelve. It is a M1 helmet that was manufactured during the second world war. My grand father got it from his father my great grand father who got it when he served in the battle of Okinawa.  He served in the coastguard on one of the ships. My great grandfather also served in WWI as a navel aviator. The M1 helmet is constructed out of manganese steel and according to the seam in the back and the latch holding the straps.
