Locket

In Attire
Relationship: Child of im/migrant

My mother was left by her mother with her siblings, this object was given to my mother from her grandmother before she left her as a small child. This object represents love, passion, and hope. She left to America in hope of finding my grandmother. My mom grew up focusing on her schoolwork, constantly being a mother figure for her siblings but most of all wondering where her mother was and asking herself if she was coming back for her. The only thing she had was a locket engraved with a swirling design and a few diamonds. My mom was a banker in Trinidad, she was a genius in math and she had a good and successful job. But in the 1990s her wonder grew stronger and she finally decided to pursue her dream of finding her mother. She had  a lot of family in America that was able to help her on her voyage to America. She didn't have a lot of resources though but she was able to come to New York on a Visa. She didn’t bring a lot of luggage she only brought clothes and belongings, but the whole time she was holding on to that one locket that provided her hope and courage when she needed it the most; to find her mom.
