My object is a lire (Lee-ra). It is an Italian coin.People used to use lire for money but now people use eros for money. My dad's aunt used to give him lires and he gave the lires to me. 200 lire is worth about 13 cents in american currency. It is not as valuable as American money. Italians now use the euro. They no longer use the lire as currency.  A lire is made of aluminium-bronze. My lire is a 200 lire. In 1999 people stopped using lire and started using eros. My great grandfather left italy when he was ten years old. He gave lires to my great aunt and she gave them to my dad. Then my dad gave them to me.  It means a lot to me because they are harder to find since Italy no longer uses these coins.
