As a kid traveling was an essential part of my life. Whether it was an extra free weekend or during the summer, I found myself on long road trips along the east coast or a day trip visit to Topeka. The long car rides were a staple of my childhood. During the summer I was in Belgium and I met a guide, who was an older man while at the museum. He offered to let me make a print of a beautiful French sonnet that the owner of the house had written; Le Bonheur de ce Monde. Le Bonheur de ce Monde is a peaceful poem written in an archaic French dialect that translates to “This World's Good Fortune.” The poem describes the peaceful life you ought to have if you leave ideally. The reason I relate to this poem is because it represents my deep love for travel. To me, travel is more than just eating new foods or visiting tourist attractions. It's a way for me to take a break and enjoy the environment of being surrounded by people who don't know you, speak a different language, and spend time with my family. The poem itself can relate to a lot of young people being raised in this generation. People find it easy to agree with the simpleness of the poem, it's a way people can be reminded to structure their life and the world rewards you. Le Bonheur de ce Monde exhibits my identity of leading a peaceful life, travel, and remembrance.
