In the Dominican Republic the kite is a toy that kids make from scratch to have fun and fly it. This is chichigua.
They fly it in the months of March and April due to the great weather and the wind. It is very easy to make chichigua, the children usually use plastic bags and coconut tree branches tied up together with strong cords. They also fly them with a cord. They use the wind power to wherever the wind is pointing at. 
The kids have a great imagination because there are different shapes to make the kites and  various type of plastics or paper with the Dominican flag and something like that. They are really interesting and beautiful. You can see a lot of chichigua, especially in Monument to Santiago de los Caballeros province.
