The Krama is a checkered scarf usually paired with a traditional button-up shirt featuring special Cambodian designs. Men and Women wear it during important cultural events such as birthdays and New Year celebrations. These two clothing items are national symbols of Cambodia and serve as essential emblems of Khmer identity. My mom and her parents are from the Philippines, while my dad and grandparents are from Cambodia, even though they left their homes, they never let go of their cultural identity and pride. We still celebrate major events like TLC (Thai, Lao, and Cambodian New Year). During New Year’s, we wear traditional clothing—either the Krama, the button-up, or sometimes both. In April, we start going to the temple more often. Since I was young, I don't remember much about my culture and traditions, but a few years ago, I began making more memories related to my culture and spending time with family. Before, I didn't really understand how important TLC is, but now I realize it's more than just a fun celebration; it represents culture and the time spent with loved ones, creating new memories. I never knew that the clothes you wear could have such a big impact but to others for example my parents it represents you, your identity, and your culture. After experiencing these traditions and memories, I will continue to pass down this culture and these clothes through generations.
