Kiddush Cup

This Kiddush cup has been important to my family for 25 years. My mom's great-grandpa, who I wish I could have met, gave it as a gift to my parents as a wedding gift and we have used it ever since. We used it for all of my family, baby-namings, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and all Jewish holidays. It is important to me because for my Bat Mitzvah service I used it and it made me feel that I was connected to all the fun and happy occasions. It is a bronze color and is a little rusty because it is so old. It says in Hebrew: Boreh pri hagafen, which means “blessing over the grapes”, which is what the Kiddush cup is used for: using it to bless and celebrate special occasions.  My grandparents and parents told me about this important object in my family's culture when I was old enough to understand what it was. The Kiddush cup connects to my religion and happy events my family has experienced. It will continue to be passed down to all generations of my family, I hope. This cup has been through everything and is very important to my family and should be continued to shine forever.
