This is a pennant from Kansas State University, representing my family’s connection to college athletics and how it has influenced my life today. I think college athletics plays a big part in the identity of America, as it brings so many people from different backgrounds together to root for their team. My dad has worked in college athletics my whole life, my first college football game was actually when I was only three weeks old. Because of his job and transitions to different universities I’ve had the opportunity to live in three different states and be surrounded by each schools unique history and culture. Each place has reminded me of how diverse America is and how united communities can become when trying to reach one common goal. While this isn’t a typical family heirloom it reminds me of my families story that has shaped who I am today
