Jamaican Curry Chicken
My object is a recipe for curry chicken. This is a dish that is popular in Jamaica, where my family is from. We make curry chicken all the time, especially in times of celebration. In the 17 century curry and other spices were brought to Jamaica by Eastern Indians. Curry powder is made from ground turmeric, coriander seeds, cayenne, ground ginger, and many other spices. This food is important because in Jamaica we like very bold flavors in our food. We love spices like jerk, ginger, spicy peppers, and of course, curry. This is special because my family eats it often. Almost 10 times a year, my family has gatherings for a birthday party or celebration. Curry chicken is always part of the meal. Eating curry chicken allows me to feel like I am in Jamaica. It makes me feel as if my whole family was here. Years ago, my great grandmother taught my grandmother how to cook curry chicken. Then my grandma taught my mom and aunts how to cook it. Pretty soon, my mom will teach me and my siblings how to cook Curry chicken. It has been passed down from generation to generation. I am excited to make this delicious food when I grow up and spread our culture to new people.
