Jade Necklace

In Attire
Relationship: Child of im/migrant

My Great grandparents, grandparents, mother, aunts and uncles from my mothers side immigrated to the united states to look for job opportunities. They all came at the same time. My father, aunts and uncles from my fathers side were already in the U.S. The family members of my mother's side came from Canton, China while the family members from my fathers side came from Hong kong, China. My mother and father met when they were in the U.S. When I was born after a few years, my grandmother gave me a dragon shaped necklace to me through my mother. The necklace represents health and protection from sickness and diseases. There are different shapes for the jade. The most common ones have a round shape. Mine was shaped like a dragon because it was the year in which I was born in, the year of the dragon. My grandmother is really important to me because she was one of the few people who supported me for my future career. Also, she was always kind to me and would be willing to listen to my problems. She always comforted me instead of yelling at me for not being strong enough. Her kindness was what made me trust and like her. My jade necklace has the same importance because it reminds me of the life lessons my grandmother taught me and that she is always supporting me. Although she is no longer here, the necklace I have reminds me of her and losing it would mean losing a part of me.
