Immigration to USA
My family and I moved and settled in the United States in 2018. We had once come to the States before settling down, so we knew what was coming and how we had to adjust. We had to adjust in many ways, including language, environment, weather, and more. The hardest part was adjusting to being far away from close family members. Back in my home country, Syria, my whole family lived in one building as a way to stay close to each other and care for one another. In 2018, we knew leaving Syria this time would be for a long time. Therefore, we decided to take this religious symbol, which represents a sura from our holy book, the Quran. This symbol was in every household in the building we all once lived in back in Syria, which is why we decided to bring it with us—to always be reminded of our loved ones and that God is always watching over us.
