McSorley's Ale House is located on East 7th street in East Village, Manhattan and houses original Houdini handcuffs that the performer used for a trick. McSorley's is the oldest bar in NYC still operating today. The story goes that these handcuffs were left by Harry Houdini after escaping from them from a dare by the pub's owner. They were kept at the ale house as a souvenir from the great magician. There is a legend that has been going on which says that Houdini's ghost haunts McSorley's. More specifically, if you see a cat outside the bar then that means the magician's presence is within the vicinity. The pub has apparently not taken down any memoribilia it has collected since 1910, which is a big part of the business' identity and historical significance. Other preserved treasures include an original 'Wanted' John Wilkes Booth Poster and the wishbones hung up by soldiers getting ready to go away for World War I.
