Homemade Metal Bracelet
This story revolves around a handmade metal bracelet that my grandma recently passed down to me. Although my family's immigration history stretches back to before the American Civil War, I still believe that this bracelet is a great object representation of my family's story. My grandma's interest in her history led her to explore her roots and travel to countries such as Germany and Ireland during the 80's. Ireland is where she came across a handmade bracelet maker that carved her name "SUE" onto a metal band. This almost fifty-year-old bracelet not only represents my family's Irish roots but also mine specifically. After I was born, my parents decided to pass her name down to me, naming me "Sierra Sue Hohenshilt". Personally, this object embodies my close relationship with my grandma and the name that we will always share. The metal is worn but still stays strong, just like my grandma, and hopefully, one day, I will have a granddaughter that shares our name as well. The bracelet will always “bond” me to my history and my close relationship with my grandma.
