Habichuela con dulce cart
Food is a very important part of my culture. I was born in the Dominican Republic and came to the United States when I was younger. Food is a huge part of Dominican culture and it's something that is apart of who I am. Although I live here, my culture is celebrated a lot in many neighborhoods in the Bronx and in upper Manhattan. You can go anywhere in these places and find amazing food. There is a high Dominican population in these places which is why there are so many places to celebrate it. In places like 181st in Washington Heights you can get things like habichuelas con dulce and maiz caquiao on the corner of 570-598 W 182nd St. I always go there every week when I have to go to Washington Heights. It's a place where you can meet new people and talk about our culture and were we are from in the island. These places mean a lot to me and it is a very important part of my life. It shows who I am and it also it shows us how to embrace our culture. Our food is something that I will treasure forever, it's our job to keep our culture alive.
