I am from the Dominican Republic. Back in the day they used this cloth strainer to make coffee. This is really traditional in my country. They used it before the real coffee maker was invented or people who did not have enough money to buy a coffee maker use these cloths. It was very easy to make coffee in this cloth, you just have to put the coffee in the cloth and then throw hot water with a container in the bottom of the cloth. They still sell a similar cloth were people prepare their coffee, but you have to be very traditional in order to use this.
