Great uncles pocket knife
My object is my great uncle's pocket knife. It is an “Old Timer" brand with 3 blades, and an engraved nameplate. The nameplate says “Uncle Henry” my name. It is long and thin with a slight “S” shape on the handle, the outside has fake ivory scales. One of the blades is very long and thin; it is the sharpest and likely was the most used until it was sharpened to a toothpick. The second blade has a deep belly and is much shorter than the first. The tip has been chipped and broken and reshaped leading me to believe it has been used as a screwdriver many times. The third blade is thinner than the second and slightly longer as well. The blades and the endcaps are stainless steel. The scales are worn down to a shiny finish, but all the recesses are coated in lint and some kind of tar. The endcap shows signs of being carried in the same pocket as coins, because it has pockmarks riddled in it. Now the knife has been retired from use, and is only used to open the odd package. I don't know much about my great uncle, and I don't really know the story of his knife. Although I feel this knife connects me to him in some way, the only things I know about him is that I have his name, and I got his knife. This knife is significant to me because I enjoy collecting antiques and trying to find things out about them. It is also important because all of my family has worked with their hands, worked in trades or similar, and this knife signifies that. This knife connects me to that, and it connects me to how I would like to think of myself.
