Butterfly pin from Poland.
Butterfly pin from Poland.

My item is a butterfly pin from my great-grandma who passed it down to my grandmother. This pin was brought from Poland during a tragic historical event, the Holocaust. Who knew such a small, copper, jewel-encrusted pin could hold so much family history. Before the cataphoric events of WW2, my grandma was able to escape the genocide and inhumane treatment of Jews. My grandma grew up in a village called Nvod Dvor which was located in Poland. She grew up there for 9 years until she emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts. Learning about my family history I was able to learn more about my family and what happened when my great grandmother and her family migrated to the U.S. This artifact is important to my family because it shows how far back our family history goes and what happened during that period. This information that I learned I will treasure and always be proud of.
