Grandparents
My family’s story to America began in the early 1970s. From my understanding it was easier for the younger children to be granted Visas to America, the younger you are the better it is. My grandparents made the difficult decision to send the older children first . The younger ones stayed behind and lived with family for some time. It would be anywhere from 1to 3 years. My mom arrived in the United States in 1985 and stayed with her siblings and my grandfather. My grandmother came in 1987 with a green card in hand. They made some sacrifices to make the move for a better life for us all . They aspired to have a life that they could build a future for generations to come. Adjusting to life in the US was not easy, they had trouble with the cold weather, food and culture. My grandfather work at John Hancock building until he retired. . My dad also came to the US in the early 1980s but he lived in New York for a short period of time, that's my family’s immigration story.
