Its September 1939 the world is at war. People are going into war left and right. Soldiers having to leave their families and might not see them for years. My grandpa being one of them. Except he didn’t go into the service until  the end of the war. He went to war on January 30,1945 and got discharged October 20,1945, so his discharge papers are a happy reminder of him coming home safely. From Hunter College, I learned that,”During World War II, even before the United States became an active belligerent, Puerto Rico played a crucial role supporting the American defense plans and supporting the Allies.”  That shows how  Puerto Rico was important when America was at war.
