As I look at my family history I know they've sacrificed so much to give us a better life here in the United States. My mother came here at a very young age because back in her hometown being a rancho where not many jobs are offered was too poor. Her parents were too poor to provide her with an education so she had to find another solution. Her whole life she knew she wanted more in life than just stay in her home town and just be a house wife that relies on men so she took the decision to come to the United States at the age of seventeen. Without many on her she decided to start her journey her mother worried of what her journey would consist of gave her a necklace that had been given to her from her own mother. This necklace has meaning and stories told behind each person that has wore it. In my grandma when she wore it it has sentimental value for her and for my mother its what for her kept her protected on her journey here. She would pray while holding the necklace to help her get safe to where she was coming which was the United States looking for a better life and opportunities and to help her family back home.
