Gold Necklace
This gold necklace that was given to me by my uncle. I was born and raised here in the United States and that means that the majority of my life has been spent here. But my parents are originally from Pakistan and the majority of our extended family still lives there. Due to our busy lives here, we don’t get to visit Pakistan as much as we would like. So when I was 14 my uncle sent me this necklace from Pakistan as a way to remember him and the rest of the family. My uncle has played a major role in my life so I consider him to be like my second father. I also look at this necklace as my connection to Pakistan, because I have been there four times and every time I go I feel a sense of home and genuine love; some of my best memories come from being with my family there. I was raised to believe that yes, I was born in America and this country is a huge part of me, but my true roots come from Pakistan. So when I wear this necklace I pay respect to my family and to our homeland Pakistan.
