Gold Necklace

Group:

My great great grandfather traveled from Germany to come to the US to make a life for him and his family. They traveled to California because of the Gold Rush in hopes of striking gold and becoming rich. Although he didn't become rich, he did find some gold. This helped him start his new life in the United States. He bought his wife a gold necklace and added some of the gold flakes he had found while panning in a river. This necklace then got passed down to their son John, who then passed it on to my mother (his favorite grandchild). My mother holds this necklace very dear to her heart, and has told me many stories of what a great man he and his father were. I enjoyed learning about the gold rush in elementary school because I knew my family had been apart of it. This necklace will eventually be passed down to me, and then I will have the honor of telling my children the same stories my mother has told me. #ECS462
