Virgin de Guadalupe Necklace

In Attire
Relationship: Im/migrant

This necklace is from Mexico where my mom, grandma, and great grandma were born. My grandma’s mother had a girl and a boy. My great grandma gave her necklace to my grandma, who was born in 1960. When my grandma grew up she had three girls and three boys but unfortunately, she lost her two girls and one boy. So my grandma gave the necklace to my mom. When I was born my mother gave me that necklace because I was the only girl. She gave it to me because she knew that the necklace that had the image of the Virgen of Guadalupe and it will protect me like it did to my great grandma, grandma, and my mom. The Virgin of Guadalupe that the necklace has is a special place in the religious life of us Mexicans and other people that are not Mexicans because to us is like our mother that protects us and make our wishes come true and gives us good luck. This necklace is really important to me and my family because it teaches us about our elders how they believe in god, how this necklace will protect us, give us good luck in our wishes and also because it gives us a fantastic memory of my great grandma that I didn’t got to meet her and how it got passed down by my grandma and mom. It represents our culture and the necklace will protect me my entire life.
