These were my nana's gold earrings she wore everyday. She left Memphis, TN, my hometown and where she was raised, for a better life in Boston when she was young. Running away from the life she knew in order to become the person she was destined to become. Seeing her walk boldly into any room with her afro and gold hoops shaped the way that I move throughout the world. I too made the migration from the south to northeast for more opportunities to discover parts of myself I never knew. Whenever I worry that I can't make a life for myself here, I remember all those who made this cross-country migration way before me.
