GG's Banana Bread Recipe
Ever since I was a kid, whenever three bananas went bad in our house my mom decided that it was time to make her Grandmother's (GG to my siblings and I) banana bread. She would pull out the recipe that she wrote down from what GG taught her when they made the bread together. Then, my mom, my younger brother, and I would set about making the banana bread. We would take turns prepping the ingredients and performing the recipe directions until the batter was made and it was time for my mom to put it in the oven. While it baked the sweet aroma would fill the house and my little brother and I would wait eagerly for it to come out, all the while watching the batter rise. When it was finally taken out of the oven and had cooled down we would each have a delicious slice. Thank to GG's recipe I learned the basics of baking and developed my love for and fond memories of baking. Now I've challenged myself to make cookies, cakes, muffins, etc. but when I see three rotting bananas I always pull out GG's banana bread recipe and think of her. Although I only ever met GG once when I was young at a family reunion I remember it fondly. Along with this memory, my mom's stories, GG's recipes, and the name Hebert which is my middle name and was GG's maiden name keep her memory alive.
