German bayonet knife
My object is old german knife (bayonet) ment for attaching onto rifles, which my great grandfather took home to Jelgava. My great grandfather fought in second world war and after the war he took this german knife with him. Post-war period he used it for pig slaughter, as it was so convenient because of its lengths. Because of decades of being unused and lack of maintenance it was all terribly rust and bumpy. Cuple of years ago while cleaning attic, we found it in terrible shape. After some time of cleaning it up with only 2 kinds of sandpaper, it already looked better. I made special efforts to clean the button on the back of the handle which now functions as ment so it wouldn’t slide off the rifle. As you can see in the photo it’s all bumpy because some of the metal was eaten away by rust and became dull. This object is very special to me because I’m very interested in second world war history and because it belonged to my great grandfather who I have never met.
