We have two swords that have been passed down the family. They have been in the family for awhile, and my great grandmother had a lot of siblings, so they argued over who would inherit them. Then your great grandmother just took them and gave them to my dad.They had been in the family for so long that people forgot what they meant. The swords are from maybe the late 1800s to early 1900s. They are attached to members of a Masonic Lodge, or Freemasons. 
After the swords were gifted to my father, when me and my brother were at the right age he gave one each to us. The Freemasons are members of a fraternal organization that dates back to the medieval stones-man guilds and is now a secular group that focuses on self-     improvement.
