The official flag of Lebanon

The cedar tree is a major representation of the Lebanese people.  The cedar tree represents strength and endurance. I chose this symbol because it represents my family’s ability to overcome any obstacle regardless of it being in Lebanon or in the United States. Both of my parents are Lebanese, my mother is first generation American and my father immigrated to this country in 1986. At the age of 18 my father left Lebanon to get an education in Czechoslovakia and to escape civil war in his country. He spent 10 years in Czechoslovakia and earned his degrees in mechanical engineering and journalism before he had the opportunity to come to the United States. Being Lebanese American is something that makes me proud. I have wonderful traditions that have been passed down and a loving community that continuously teaches me the the value of generosity.
