Even if I wasn't born in the Philippines, jewelry ties me back and is something I consider important to my culture. Ever since I was young whenever my family goes back to the Philippines to visit family, I always would get jewelry whether it's a ring, necklace, or earrings from my Lola (grandma). Whenever I get something, my Lola tells me a story of someone in her family who would make jewelry. There have been people in my family who've made jewelry since the end of Spanish colonization.  This is important to me and my cultural upbringing because I always connect a piece of my jewelry to somebody from my Lola's side. I like to think that they're with me whenever I wear the specific ring, necklace, etc.
