For my artifact, I chose a fedora that my father’s father owned. My grandfather came with his family after serving in the Korean war because of worsening tensions. This artifact represents the struggle that my grandfather and his family had to go through. He carried that hat and wore it everywhere he went. He even decided to take it with him to the United States. He wanted to provide for his family and provide them with a good education in the United States. This was because my father and his brother wanted to pursue the arts as a career. And so my grandfather and his family moved to California. There my grandfather made a career out of being a carpenter. His legacy continues with my father continuing his carpentry business. But the reason why the hat is relevant and meaningful to me is because I received it from my grandmother after my grandfather passed. He died 3 years ago from lung cancer and so his legacy lives on with me as well.
