Family Plate
When my Opa was 3 years old he immigrated from Munich, Germany to Buffalo, New York and brought this plate with him. It was during the Cold War when my Opa immigrated. My Opa brought that plate with him when he immigrated because it reminded them that they were German and they were very proud to be from Germany. Even though my Opa was in a different country he was proud to be from Germany. There are 16 states in Bavaria which is the largest state in Germany. My Opa grew up in Munich, Germany and my Oma grew up in Garmisch or Nurnberg, Germany and then she moved to Munich, Germany. She never met my Opa until he moved to the US. Munich. Germany’s flag is a monk with a bible and beer because Germany is famous for their beer. Bavaria is most famous for their beautiful mountains, hearty food, and making cars. Did you know that the Neuschwanstein Castle in Munich, Germany is used in the animated Cinderella movie? The Neuschwanstein Castle was the inspiration for the Cinderella movie and that is why they look so alike. The plate is made of wood and was also painted, it shows the very good woodworking that they do in Germany. I would like to go to Munich, Germany someday because it is where my ancestors are from and I would like to learn more about where my Opa came from.
