Family Photo
Here is a photo of my grandparents as well as my father (the boy on the left) when he was a child. This was taken in their home in Puerto Rico, a couple of years before they migrated to New York in order to follow the ideological notion of the American Dream. Prior to migration, my grandmother was a nurse but when she arrived, they did not accept her nursing papers which led her to work in a factory since she did not have the time to go through the process of becoming a nurse in American standards. Plus, she did not speak English. My grandfather had worked in a farm in Puerto Rico and when he came to New York he worked in a grocery store. They made these sacrifices in order to give a better life for their kids, and their future grandchildren.
