In 2016, my mother needed to go to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, for medical reasons. Her doctor instructed her that she needed to return every year for the next five years. That was the year my family decided to turn something dreadful into a fun, family getaway. While in Charlottesville, we would do fun activities, explore new places, and try new food. Some of my favorite places we have been to are the Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns, The Blue Ridge Tunnel, and many more.  My mother has a friend named Gloria that lives about 30 minutes from Charlottesville in Waynesboro. Gloria had the most beautiful house, with 6.5 acres of the most breathtaking land. We would do a bunch of activities at her house such as drive the Go Kart that her husband built from scratch, go on a scavenger hunt in her fairy garden, and sit around the campfire eating s’mores as her husband, Dave, told spooky stories. This was something I always looked forward to every summer, and it was a way for me to decompress away from home before school started. As I cherish these memories and moments forever, I can’t wait to start this tradition with my future family and create our own memories.
