My name is Maya and I am single mother of two children. I migrated to the United States of America in 1997 from India. When I left my home country, I brought the above pictures of my parents and children along with the religious objects which I use everyday when I do my prayer in the morning and in the evening.
When I first came I stayed at Sunnyside, Queens with two other Nepali couples in a two bedroom apartment. I didn't have a bedroom of my own. I slept in a living room on a couch. The father of my children was alcoholic and abusive which made me to take full in charge of my children's upbringing, education and to provide them a happy childhood. I left my children at my elder sister's care in search of land of fortune or the opportunities.
