Evzones Uniform
My grandparents on my father's side of my family came to america through ellis island from Greece. They have both shared many parts of their culture with my family and passed down certain objects over the years. A certain piece of clothing called the Evzones Uniform has been passed down through generations of my family. The origins of the traditional uniform that the Evzones wear are closely tied to Greek military history. Today, the Evzones take on a ceremonial role. One of their main duties of the soldiers who wear the Evzones uniform is to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens. In many ways, their role is a symbolic one and their uniform represents of Greece’s military legacy. My dad's father wore the uniform and passed it down to my dad who took a picture in it. The uniform then got passed on to my cousins who took a photo in it. It has become a tradition to pass it down from father to son in my family and have them take a picture in the uniform. The last person it has been passed down to in my family is my brother The Evzones uniform is handmade with specific detail and takes many months to complete. It is a symbol of the country’s pride.
