Ethiopian stone necklace
The object that holds the deepest personal significance for me is a unique necklace given to me by my grandmother a few years ago. At first glance, its design is humble yet striking: a simple, dark rope holding a cross carved from a smooth black rock, which features my name etched on its surface in Amharic. When I first placed it around my neck,. i assumed it was merely a piece of jewelry, a traditional accessory to wear on special occasions or display as a family keepsake.
However, as the years passed, my relationship with this necklace transformed completely. It evolved from a basic token of affection into a quiet source of personal assurance and emotional grounding. Whenever I face uncertainty or a mild inconvenience, holding the black stone brings me an immediate sense of assurance and stability. It serves as a tangible connection to my heritage, and the above mild love of my family.
This particular necklace also carries a deeper weight because of what came before it. Prior to receiving this gift, I wore a different necklace because unfortunately, at some point, that original, gold necklace vanished. Despite searching for a full day, I still cannot find it. While losing that first necklace was annoying, its absence ultimately paved the way for this black rock cross to take its place, turning an inconvenienced loss into a strong, lasting symbol of confidence and resilience.
