In world war two money was scarce among many other things. Many people bartered for the things they needed with objects of value, for example family heirlooms. My great grandfather was a famous Russian doctor and many people came to him to get top of the line medical aid. One day a woman came in through the hospital doors. She was in need of serious medical attention. She was about to give birth but her baby was laying sideways and it was impossible to take out without an experienced doctor. The woman had been struggling for three days straight now. She and her husband finally made it to the hospital after 2 days of travel, where my Great grandfather Lev worked at. My great grandfather saved her life and as a sign of gratitude the women gave my great grandfather a gold ring with an emerald on top. The ring was handmade by her father and given to her. She gave that ring to my great grandfather as payment for the surgery. My great grandfather accepted the ring and passed it on to whichever one of his children had a child first. I was lucky enough that my grandfather was the one who received the ring. Then my grandfather gave the ring to my dad because he had a child first and the ring is waiting to be obtained by either me or my brother.
