Dunghill Desire Cologne
Bottled Memories
My object is a cologne called “Dunhill Desire" by Alfred Dunhill. This has scents of apple, wood, and vanilla. My grandpa purchased this fragrance when it first came out, and it has made its way down to me. Fragrances originated in the year 1709, when Giovanni Maria came out with his product called, Eau De Cologne. About 300 years later, “Dunhill Desire” cologne was launched in the year 2000. This is the year my grandpa decided to purchase it for the first time. He would go on to use it when he went on dates with my grandma, when he had work business, and when he came to the cabin in Ruidoso to meet our whole family. Going to Ruidoso is important to me because this is where our entire family meets once a year. Smelling this cologne brings me a sense of nostalgia and comfort because it reminds me of all the times spent with family and how it is to hug my grandpa. My dad soon realized how much he enjoyed how it smells, so he bought some Dunhill of his own. I remember him wearing it for the same reasons my grandpa wore it.. For my sixteenth birthday, my dad gifted me the other half of his bottle of cologne. It meant so much when he gave this to me. I have been wearing it ever since because it reminds me of my childhood and it gives me a sense of representation of our family.
