Dubliners
This was my great-grandmother's copy of Dubliners by James Joyce. She moved from Russia as a teenager not knowing how to read, but eventually learned in the US and became a life-long fan. I have many of her books, but this one was her favorite. It's one of my favorite books as well, and the only one of hers I brought to college with me. I always reread it and her notes in the margins when I feel out of place or sad, and it makes me feel connected to her as well as to the world more broadly and feel a little bit at home in the permanent disconnection Joyce highlights in these stories.
