This flag represents the country which my parents migrated from a few years before they had me. When they migrated from the Dominican Republic, they came with my sister who was very young at the time and came to New York in the hopes for a better life. When my parents lived in the Dominican Republic, the town where they lived was very poor and when my parents were young they worked in factories to make a living and to help out the family. Once they migrated to the U.S. life changed for them and they were able to stabilize themselves and build a better life for my sister and I.
