Dictionary
My mother received this dictionary as a gift from my grandmother(her mother) as additional education resources for my brother. My mother used this book as supplementary material to teach my brother literacy skills alongside his assigned school work. She also used the book alongside a Jamaican Psalms book to teach him, his friends, and the children of close family friends. When she immigrated to America, she brought the dictionary with her, hoping to continue using it as a learning tool. When I entered Elementary school, it was my time to inherit its teachings and she used it to help me become a proficient reader and writer alongside the red vocabulary cards that elementary schools assigned. This dictionary not only represents educational advancement and connecting community to me, but it symbolizes my mother's success in providing an opportunity for her children to pursue higher education.
